Assembly help with Pro/E 7 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
This one is for you parallaxe.

Is there a way to create constraints within an assembly so I can drag a packaged component along a certain axis, but have it also constrained within a feature?

For example, say I have a block with a 6" keyway cut into it as the first _object_ of my assembly. The next _object_ is a pin. It needs to be constrained to the keyway, but able to slide along the whole six inches.

I've got the pin constrained to a datum going down the center of the keyway to take care of that axis (X). I've got one surface of the pin constrained to the bottom of the keyway to take care of that axis (Z). Now I'm stuck. How do I constrain the Y axis within the 6 inches?

Any help would be great, thanks!

Before I dig my head into this one, can you tell me if you have the Advanced Assembly Module installed?

You know, I'm not sure....

I know I can select Mechanism from the 'Application' pull down, but I don't think I can select the other stuff.

I will look on Monday when I go in and post here what I find out.

Other than talking to the person in charge of software, how would I find out if I have the Advanced Assembly Module? He is being difficult to track down today..

I am not a Pro E user but I do know of one way to do this in Inventor.

In addition to the two constraints you already have, I would apply a "driven" constraint.

The pin would be set to the limit of one end of its movement (flush with end of the pin and _object_ your keyway is in), and then you would drive the constraint by entering 6" as the other limit of its travel.

You still have to manually select Drive Constraint to show its movement, but it does control the limit of its travel.

I am sure ProE has something similiar....

Not sure if I helped!
